Ric Rac cactus 6"
The Ric Rac Cactus is the common name for the Epiphyllum anguliger (or sometimes Selenicereus anthonyanus), also known as the Fishbone Cactus or Zig Zag Cactus. It is an epiphytic cactus native to the rainforests of Mexico, known for its unique, deeply lobed, zigzagging stems that cascade over the edges of pots. It is valued for its unusual architectural shape and large, fragrant, night-blooming flowers that appear in late summer or fall when the plant is mature.
Light: Requires bright, indirect light. As a jungle plant, it grows under a canopy and should be protected from harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the stems.
Watering: Water more often than a desert cactus. Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings, then soak thoroughly. Wrinkling stems usually indicate thirst.
Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix. A blend of cactus/succulent soil, orchid bark, and perlite works well to mimic its natural epiphytic environment.
Temperature & Humidity: Prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and enjoys moderate to high humidity (50%+), though it is resilient in average household humidity.
Toxicity: The Ric Rac Cactus is non-toxic to pets (cats and dogs) and humans, making it a safe choice for most homes.
