The Pachira aquatica braid, commonly known as the Money Tree, is a popular, low-maintenance houseplant featuring a unique, hand-braided trunk. This tropical tree is cherished for its lush, green, hand-shaped leaves and is widely associated with bringing good fortune and positive energy into a home or office according to Feng Shui principles.

    • Light: The plant does best in bright, indirect light, such as near an east- or west-facing window with a sheer curtain. While it can tolerate lower light, this may lead to leggy growth. Rotate the plant weekly to ensure even growth.

    • Watering: Overwatering is the most common problem, so it's essential to let the soil dry out about 50-75% between waterings. Water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot, then discard any excess water in the saucer.

    • Soil and Potting: A well-draining potting mix is crucial. A peat moss-based mix amended with perlite or sand works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes. Repot every 2-3 years, in the spring, using a pot that is only 1-2 inches larger in diameter.

    • Temperature and Humidity: As a tropical plant, it prefers warm conditions, ideally between 65°F and 85°F (18°C–29°C). It appreciates moderate humidity, which can be increased with a pebble tray or a humidifier. Avoid placing it near cold drafts or heating/AC vents, as sudden temperature changes can cause leaf drop.

    • Fertilization: Feed with a diluted, balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer a few times during the spring and summer growing season. Do not fertilize in fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

    • Pruning: Prune in the spring to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Use sharp, clean shears to remove any yellow, damaged, or dead leaves down to the stem. Do not cut into the braided section of the stems.
